People with excessively sweaty hands, known medically as palmar hyperhidrosis, seek treatment because the condition causes great distress. Although the symptoms are not life threatening, everyday tasks such as holding pens, buttons, and tools are nearly impossible with excessively sweaty hands. People with excessively sweaty hands often wear gloves and avoid handshaking and may even select a profession that limits social interaction.
Current studies show that 2 out of 100 people suffer from excessive hand sweating although this number could be low since many people never mention their symptoms to their physician.
There is treatment to stop sweaty hands. This includes non-surgical treatment as well as surgical treatment of sweaty feet with endoscopic thoracic sympathectomy.
