Excessive Facial Sweating and Blushing

Over-activity of the sympathetic nervous system may lead to excessive sweating, a condition known as hyperhidrosis.  Hyperhidrosis may result in severe facial blushing and excessive facial sweating as well as excessive perspiration in other parts of the body. This condition may be diagnosed as rosacea, but rosacea is a different process. Facial Sweating may originate at the upper chest or the neck and extend to the forehead and ears.

Individuals with excessive facial sweating may blush excessively during routine times of social interaction, such as meeting friends for lunch or paying for purchases at a store. The face may become deep red in color, making social or professional situations difficult for people with excessive facial sweating. Additionally, many people describe a "burning sensation," medically known as "hyperpyrexia," that accompanies excessive facial sweating. These feelings of facial burning and tingling can become so uncomfortable that the individual's ability to concentrate and function is significantly compromised.

Treatment for Excessive Facial Sweating

There is treatment to stop excessive facial sweating.  This includes non-surgical treatment as well as surgical treatment of excessive perspiration with endoscopic thoracic sympathectomy.
